California Consumer Privacy Act Employee Privacy Notice

BioMed Realty, L.P., and its affiliates (collectively, the “Company” or “we”) have adopted this Data Collection Policy (this “Policy”) to notify individuals whose personal information the Company collects, uses or stores.

This Policy governs the Company’s approach and procedures regarding personal information of individuals who are residents in California to which the California Consumer Privacy Act (the “CCPA”) applies. For personal information outside the scope of the CCPA, the Company’s local policies and procedures may vary.

We collect personal information, including the categories listed below, as part of our pre-employment (i.e., during the hiring/recruiting process) and ongoing employment or other relationship with you (e.g., vendor relationship):

  • Contact and identifying information of you and certain of your family members or others (e.g., name, social security number, passport number, birthdate, place of birth, email, address, phone number);
  • Marital status;
  • Financial information;
  • Employment history;
  • Educational background;
  • Tax status; and
  • Other information you provide to us.

We use the personal information we collect about you as follows:

  • to provide you and/or your family or others (at your request) with compensation and other employment benefits (e.g., health and dental insurance, 401(k));
  • to manage and operate the Company and its functions and activities;
  • to maintain our global directory and post such personal information on our internal network (available to other Company employees and staff). You may edit or limit the sharing of this information, if you choose;
  • for certain employees, to post certain of their personal information (e.g., name, educational background, and Company contact information, such as their Company e-mail address and office phone number) and their photograph online as part of our website available at https://biomedrealty.com;
  • to carry out obligations under contracts (including employment contracts), and employment, tax and benefits laws; and in connection with other working relationships or arrangements;
  • to develop training programs;
  • to recruit and hire job applicants;
  • to assess qualifications, and to manage performance;
  • to perform background checks and verify references;
  • to manage the employee termination process; and
  • to perform other human resources or contractual functions.

We may also collect information about you through technology (e.g., IP addresses, traffic data, location data, weblogs, and communication data, including your browsing history and information in your Company e-mail account).

In addition, we may also use and share with others the personal information we collect about you to (a) ensure that Company policies and procedures are being followed, (b) ensure the safety, security and integrity of our workplace and information technology systems, (c) comply with applicable laws, regulations, subpoenas, legal process, and governmental investigations and inquiries, (d) cooperate with law enforcement and (e) assert or defend against legal claims. We may share your personal information with payroll processing and other vendors that require the information to perform services on your behalf, but we will not sell any of your personal information.

We keep your personal information for a period of up to 10 years (or any longer period as may be required by applicable laws), as detailed in our Document Retention Policy and Records Retention Schedule.

You have the right to request the specific pieces of personal information that we collect from you, and the right to request the deletion of personal information, subject to certain retention requirements.
